In the surprise-filled world of childhood, we sometimes find little heroes who inspire us with their determination and creativity. One of these heroes is Murilo Antonio Matos, an autistic boy who recently made his dream come true through his literary talent.
At six years old, Murilo became the youngest author in the west of Paraná, Brazil, when he published his first book. But even more touching than the achievement itself is the reason why he chose to write.
Jheniffer Veronica, Murilo’s mom, who shared her son’s inspiring journey on her TikTok profile, told Amo Meu Pet (our Brazilian website about pet news) how the idea of getting a puppy came to be.
"He is six years old, and we had previously tried to adopt cats and stray dogs, but Murilo didn’t adjust well to their temperaments. One of the many times he cried asking for a pet, I decided to show him some options to purchase, since the others hadn’t worked out. He looked at many animals, but when he saw a picture of a Golden Retriever puppy, he was instantly charmed."
Jheniffer researched the breed, its temperament, and other important details, then told Murilo it would be possible to get the dog from the picture. Murilo chose the name Marte for his future companion, inspired by his big dream of one day colonizing the red planet.
Life with Marte, as with any puppy, brought lots of joy — but also many challenges. "Marte liked to nibble, and Murilo is very sensitive, but we’re adapting over time. He’s just a baby,” Jheniffer shared.
Murilo’s book played a key role in this story. He started writing it when he was just five years old as part of a school project. After reading what her son had written, Jhenifer was delighted and decided it was time to share his story with the world.
The book tells a bit about Murilo’s fascination with the universe, and also includes real information and details about his big dream of traveling to Mars. To make his dream of having a Golden Retriever come true, the boy sold his book in front of his great-grandparents’ house and in local parks.
"With the money from the book sales, he was able to buy his beloved puppy, Marte, who instantly stole his heart," his mom said.
Murilo Antonio Matos’s story is a touching reminder that determination and creativity can make dreams come true—regardless of age or limitations. At just six years old, Murilo is already teaching us that dreams can come true with love, persistence, and the help of a loyal, four-legged friend.
