No Shower, No Cuddles: Shih Tzu Refuses Sweaty Owner's Affection

Jolie is a little Shih Tzu who loves to be petted. However, this affection shouldn’t be given just any way. But what if the owner is sweaty after a workout at the gym or cycling? No chance!To get this cutie’s attention, you’ve got to be freshly showered. Otherwise, you’ll be ignored.

This five-year-old tiny sweetheart lives with her owner, Gabriel Pause Schneider, in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The video showcasing this unique preference was shared on TikTok @gabrielpauseschneider on May 2.

In the video, Gabriel is seen wearing his cycling gear, having just finished a ride. Upon arriving home and seeing Jolie, his “Elmyra mode” kicked in, and he picked her up to shower her with affection.

Jolie, having no other choice, “accepts” the embrace, but receiving sweaty kisses is just too much! That’s why, every time Gabriel tries to kiss her, she pushes him away with her paws. What a character!

Well, to prove that Jolie isn’t so indifferent to her owner, Gabriel shared another moment.

At the time, the pet was also on his lap, but this time, she showered him with kisses. Do you know why? Because he had just taken a bath.

In an interview with Amo Meu Pet (our Brazilian pet news website), Gabriel shared how the little dog came into his life. His girlfriend had an elderly Shih Tzu, and since he loved animals, Gabriel decided to get a puppy of his own. After all, there’s nothing better than having a pet in a relationship, right? And the little puppy was a surprise for his girlfriend.

The little dog lived with Gabriel, who was living alone at the time, but Roberta (who is currently engaged) was always around.

However, there was a period when Roberta went abroad to study, and Gabriel, caught up in the rush of work, couldn’t take care of the pet, so he left her with his mother.

“My mom fell in love with her and wanted to ‘steal’ Jolie from us,” he recalled. “That’s because Jolie was always very charismatic, sweet, and well-behaved.”

Gabriel’s mom tried to keep her, but Roberta, when she returned to Brazil, stopped her, as she couldn’t live without her dog. Jolie won her grandmother’s heart so much that she ended up getting another Shih Tzu.

“Jolie is very active. She’s a nervous little dog with a big personality, and she’s very jealous. She always wants to be involved in everything.”

This cutie is so clingy that anyone who comes home had better pick her up. If someone ignores her, she’ll bark loudly until she gets attention—and, of course, a hug. But, as mentioned before, no sweaty cuddles allowed—you’ve got to be nice and clean!

“Every time I get home, she comes running to give me a hug. Then, I pick her up, right?” she said. “But I started noticing that when I’d come home from cycling, she’d put her paw on me and wouldn’t let me get near her.”

Finding his pet’s behavior hilarious, Gabriel asked Roberta to record a scene of him, sweaty after cycling, trying to hug his pet versus after taking a shower. I can tell you right now, the result was adorable!

The post reached over 90,000 views, 9,161 reactions, and thousands of funny comments.
