Cat Keeps Asking for the Door to Be Opened? This Man Found the Perfect Solution

I think one of the requirements for being a pet “mom” or “dad” is creativity — it really takes imagination to keep up with our pets’ whims, doesn’t it? Just ask Julia Beckman’s boyfriend, Lucas Oliveira!

Their two-year-old cat, Miau, is quite demanding. He loves being near his humans, and to avoid opening the door every time he asks, Lucas came up with the perfect workaround.

Thinking the gadget was great — and hoping it might inspire others with the same problem — Julia recorded the invention and showed how it works in practice, with Miau making full use of it. She shared the video on her TikTok profile (@juliabeckmann_).

To make the invention, she used two screws (or nails) and a rubber band — like the kind used to hold money. One screw was attached to the door frame and the other to the side of the door — both at the same height. Then, each end of the rubber band was attached to the screws.

You get the idea, right?

This way, there’s no need to close the door with the handle — it stays slightly ajar. When Miau wants to come in, he just pushes it. Problem solved!

Told you it was creative!

In an interview with Amo Meu Pet (our Brazilian website about pet news), Julia said the couple is from Pará, Brazil, and that Miau came into their lives through adoption.

“Every Sunday at Praça da República, a public park, there’s an adoption fair where people who’ve rescued animals bring them for adoption. That’s how we found Miau!”

The decision to adopt a pet came about because Lucas works a lot and spends many days away from home, while Julia was feeling lonely. One day, they decided to go to the pet fair — and when they saw Miau, it was love at first sight.

“As soon as my boyfriend laid eyes on him, there was no turning back — he said, ‘That’s the one we’re going to adopt,’” Julia said, laughing.

Miau (such a lovely name!) is a playful and energetic kitty. He loves to play and run around the house, zooming from one side to the other — giving his owners no peace, especially when they’re in the bedroom with the air conditioning on. He’s constantly scratching at the door to get in.

“So Lucas, tired of getting up during the day — and especially at night — came up with the idea. He looked in the toolbox and made a simple fix so we wouldn’t have to keep getting up and Miau could move around the house freely.”

Over 2.8 million people watched and approved the hack, with 346,000 reactions and thousands of comments praising the creativity — and wondering why they hadn’t thought of it before to try at home.

“I wish I had thought of this before mine learned to open the door by pulling the handle,” lamented one viewer.
“I love how cat people gave up on home aesthetics a long time ago,” commented another.
“Guys, this is simply genius,” added a third.

Miau has owners who love him deeply — and that’s why Julia says:

“Miau is very important to me and my boyfriend. I don’t know how it’s possible to love a little creature this much. He definitely has a special place in our hearts. The only way to describe what I feel when I look at him is pure love.”
