Akita Has Unexpected Reaction to Groomer After Waking Up from a Nap
By Gabriele Tancredo Stella in Dogs
An Akita who regularly visits the grooming salon Amicão, in Paraná, Brazil, is well-loved by the staff and has never caused any trouble.
But as soon as he realized what he’d done, he immediately felt guilty — and apologized to her. Can you believe it? Sandra, the groomer, didn’t show any fear of her little client — on the contrary, she accepted his apologetic kisses and even returned the affection.
The salon is monitored by internal security cameras, and Sandra — aiming to show a bit more of the reality behind grooming salons — regularly shares footage of her team at work on social media.
This adorable moment of apology was shared on the salon’s TikTok @petshopamicao, where it has garnered over 530,000 views.
In an interview with Amo Meu Pet (our Brazilian website about pet news), Sandra shared a little of the salon’s story. She talked about their relationship with the Akita and the joy of working with these adorable little creatures — who might misbehave sometimes, but know exactly how to win your heart.
Sandra has a degree in business administration and a postgraduate degree in marketing. Ten years ago, she decided to rebuild the pet shop, which had already gone through three previous owners.
“Over time, I developed a growing ability to delight customers — lifting the Amicão name to the top alongside my team, with annual quality certifications since 2014 that fill us with pride,” she said.

Amicão’s mission is to delight and deliver extraordinary experiences to its customers. Its vision is to be consistently recognized and valued for the quality and excellence of its service. The company values transparency with its customers and love for pets.
This combination of principles is why the Akita’s family has trusted Sandra’s team since he was just four months old — and now he’s eight. His little canine brother also visits the salon.
“They’re very friendly — so sweet with us,” she shared. “They sometimes quarrel with other dogs, so we can’t leave them in groups — but we can’t forget, they’re Akitas,” she added.
The Akita, according to the American Kennel Club (AKC), is a courageous and alert dog. This breed is known for its loyalty and dedication to its family, forming a strong bond with its owner. They are independent and protective, which makes them excellent guard dogs.
Akitas have a reserved but courageous temperament and require proper socialization from a young age to get along well with other animals and people.
Their intelligence and determination make them highly trainable dogs, although they can be stubborn at times. In short, the Akita is a loyal and protective companion with a distinct personality.
Given the breed’s personality, Sandra’s Akita clients tend to have strong temperaments and get along better with puppies, older dogs, and Sandra’s own dog, Madruga. For this reason, they are kept separate from the other dogs during bath time.
On the day of the incident, the dog was inside the drying machine — a spot he loves and considers his own. Sandra opened the door to check if the drying process was done so she could finish the bath and let him out. However, since he was sleeping, he got startled and reacted by biting her.
“During the Friday rush, close to lunchtime, I went to check on the Akita. In a hurry, I opened the door and placed my hand on his head — which you really shouldn’t do, right? It was a very sudden movement. He got scared and instinctively bit me.”
Luckily, his tooth hit Sandra’s wedding ring, preventing a more serious injury and leaving only a bruise.
In all the time he’s been going to the salon, the dog has never bitten her — and Sandra sees the episode as her own mistake for waking him so abruptly.
The poor guy was so upset about what he did that he didn’t rest until he realized that Sandra was calm and had forgiven him.

Sandra ends the interview by saying that working in a grooming salon takes a lot of love and patience. With love and patience, training and skill come naturally.
