Our reader Fernanda Sichciopi Pereira, who lives in São Paulo, Brazil, was surprised by her husband, Fernando de Souza Pereira. But the surprise wasn’t a romantic dinner or a box of chocolates — it was something even better: a pet. And what sort of pet, you may ask? A pig! Just picture the cuteness! The little pig was named Tunica, and at the time, she was only 48 days old. In the short time she’s lived with Fernanda, she has won not only her heart but also the hearts of her three canine children: Nala, three months old; Simba, seven months old — both Pitbulls — and Bili, a thirteen-year-old mixed breed.

Completely in love with her new pet, Fernanda shared with Amo Meu Pet (our Brazilian website about pet news), through a chat interview, a bit about Tunica’s relationship with her siblings. Guys, this quartet is so adorable!

Tunica joined the family after the couple visited one of Fernando’s friends, who raises pigs for sale. WWhen Fernanda saw the adorable little piglets, she was instantly charmed. The friend, noticing her excitement, offered the couple a piglet.

So Fernando asked his wife if she really wanted one. She gave an enthusiastic “yes”. Since then, Tunica has become part of the family.

Fernando has a farm, which will be Tunica’s home. However, due to the cold weather, the piglet is staying temporarily at Fernanda’s house, where she’s being thoroughly spoiled. She wears clothes to stay warm and absolutely loves sunbathing.

Best of all, she got along incredibly well with the family’s dogs. It didn’t take long for this cutie to become their companion — especially to Nala and Simba. Wherever they go, she follows — and they love having her around!

Tunica loves napping next to Nala on the couch — and cuddling with Simba. She also knows exactly how to express herself when she wants something — every request comes with a cute and unique little snort.

This little pig gets a bath once a week — with fancy soap and everything — and even goes on leash walks to the park to stay safe and have fun. Now I'm even considering getting a pig too!

Fernanda concludes the interview by saying: “I love having a little pig as a pet. I used to think a pig was just a pig, but I found out it’s completely different from what I imagined. They’re clean, love affection, and are very polite. I think it’s amazing, and I’m loving it.”

Pigs as Pets

According to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA), having a pig as a pet requires special care to ensure their well-being.

It’s important to provide them with a spacious and safe environment where they can move freely. A balanced diet of specific pig food, fruits and vegetables is essential. They also need constant access to fresh, clean water. In addition, hygiene is essential — including regular baths and frequent cleaning of their living space.

It’s recommended to consult a veterinarian who specializes in pigs to ensure they stay healthy. With the proper care, pigs can become happy and healthy pets.
