Feijão is a Dachshund living the kind of life every pet dreams of — he eats the best food, has a loving family, and has tons of fun. Of all the fun things he does, one activity brings him the most joy. What is it? Boat rides.Yes, this cutie gets all excited the moment he sees a boat — he’s always ready to hop in for a ride. He even looks like a little fisherman — for him, it’s always time to set sail!

But there’s a reason for all this excitement — he absolutely loves going to the island where his family has a house. It’s Feijão’s little paradise — everyone knows him, he can run around freely, and he loves jumping into the water to cool off.

This little sweetheart lives in Bahia — and no wonder he loves the water, it’s so hot there! His owner, Saionara Oliveira, shared a bit about his adventurous life in an interview with Amo Meu Pet (our Brazilian website about pet news).

“He loves exploring the island — he’s always the first one on the boat and gets super anxious to reach the shore. He’s always checking to see if they’re getting close.”

The island is called Santana — a tidal island community. The region is home to fishermen and is known for its rich culture, natural beauty, and laid-back island lifestyle.

“Everyone on the island knows him — he gets on and off the boat all by himself. The only way to get to the island is by canoe or boat.”

The family has a vacation home there, and every time they visit, they bring Feijão along so he’s never left behind. And of course, he absolutely loves these trips!

“We visit our island home about once a month. On his first boat ride, he was scared, but he quickly got used to it — and soon, the whole island knew him. Now, whenever a boat docks, he hops on right away — always ready for another ride.”

He’s a clever little guy, isn’t he? Curious about how he got his name? Saionara explains:

“Feijão came into my life through my stepson. He really wanted to have a dog, and a female dog that belonged to his aunt had puppies. He picked out the puppy and named him Feijão because, when he was tiny, he looked just like a little bean — which is what 'feijão' means in Portuguese.”

So adorable!

Do Dachshunds like water?

Well, Feijão sure proved they do — right? According to the pet website Pet Keen, dogs of this breed can have very individual preferences when it comes to water. Some Dachshunds may like water and enjoy swimming, while others may be more reluctant or even afraid of water.

If you have a Dachshund and want to introduce them to water, it’s best to do it gradually — always respecting their pace and comfort, and taking proper safety measures.

When it comes to swimming, though, Dachshunds have physical traits that can make it more challenging than for other breeds. Due to their long bodies, short legs, and narrow chests, not all Dachshunds are naturally skilled swimmers.

But that doesn’t mean they can’t swim — with the right supervision and care, they can learn and even enjoy it.
