“Angry” Chow Chow? No Problem for This Groomer Who Knows Their Secrets

Grooming a dog—especially a strong one like a Chow Chow—is an art that requires both skill and patience.
But that’s no problem for Nilson Zaparoli, a specialist in Chow Chows who owns a pet shop in Curitiba, Paraná (Brazil).
Nilson loves what he does! He never turns away any client—angry or not. That’s because, according to him:
“Every aggressive dog has some sort of trauma, and every trauma has to be treated with respect for each animal’s time.”
Chow Chows are known for being aggressive and temperamental due to their reserved nature and distrust of strangers, along with strong protective instincts.
However, this behavior can be shaped by socialization and proper training, turning many Chow Chows into loyal and friendly pets.
Having owned a Chow Chow and being aware of the breed’s temperament, Nilson decided to specialize in it.
Another reason he chose this path was that most places refused to bathe his dog whenever he tried to schedule an appointment.
“So I started giving my Chow Chow a bath at home”, Nilson told

As he dedicated himself to his pet, his passion for bathing and grooming grew, until the opportunity arose to open a pet shop.
At first, the pet shop only served Nilson’s own dog. But when Nilson’s acquaintances found out about his new business, they began recommending him to other Chow Chow owners.
As his reputation grew, more owners began calling to schedule appointments. And little by little, the business became established.
“I had no experience—just with my own dog,” Nilson revealed.
After getting bitten a few times while handling dogs from other owners, Nilson decided to study the breed and learn how to deal with them properly.
“Today, I’ve become one of the top Chow Chow specialists in Brazil,” he concluded.
Nilson has Instagram and TikTok accounts with over 299,000 followers combined. He regularly posts videos of his routine in the pet shop.
