A family from Caxias do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil), shared a peculiar hack to try trimming their Pinscher, Nutella’s, nails.
The video, posted on Nathália Klering’s TikTok profile on December 23, quickly surpassed 13,000 views.
The Pinscher’s owner is Luciana Rezzadori, Nathália’s stepmother. In an interview with Amo Meu Pet (our Brazilian pet news website), she explained that Nutella is one of the family’s six dogs—but he’s notoriously difficult when it comes to trimming his nails.
“Not even at the pet shop—when he goes—can the staff manage to cut them. He gets angry and bites,” Nathália said.

Facing this challenge, the family tried several approaches—including distracting him with food, trying while he slept, and other common methods.
However, Nutella remained resistant and his owners realized that they needed to find a different way to deal with the situation.
That’s when Erasmo Klering, Nathália’s father, came up with the idea of using a plastic bag to lift the Pinscher, making it easier to access his nails.
“My dad saw a bunch of nail-trimming techniques for Pinschers online. We tried them all—and decided to record and share the one with the bag,” she added.
In the same interview, Nathália shared her experience and offered advice for other owners who face similar challenges—especially with Pinschers.
“You need to have patience and try different approaches until you find the one that works best for your family. Another thing is to do a little each day—and most importantly, start when they’re puppies, so they learn it doesn’t hurt and that it’s for their own good.”

Despite Nutella’s resistance to having his quality of life improved, the whole situation is taken with humor.
Difficulty cutting dogs’ nails, especially those of more sensitive breeds such as Pinschers, is a common situation faced by many owners.
According to pet care experts, it is essential to find techniques that minimize the animal’s stress and provide a more peaceful experience during nail trimming.
Experts also recommend that owners learn about the best practices for cutting their pets’ nails.
Specialized websites like Purina, offer detailed guidance on how to perform the procedure safely and effectively. Here are some tips:
- Having patience is essential;
- Let them smell and investigate the nail clippers so they become familiar with the object before you begin.
- When you are ready to begin trimming, gently hold your dog’s paw and squeeze lightly to help the nail stand out more;
- Hold your dog’s paw firmly and cut the top of the nail;
- Do not go beyond the pink line—this is the vein that supplies blood. If your dog’s nail is darker and you can’t see the line, cut slowly, always taking care to follow the limit.
- Keep styptic powder on hand in case of bleeding;
- If you can’t do it alone, seek help from a veterinarian or specialized groomer.
The video shared by the Klering family not only drew attention to the peculiar technique, but also served as a reminder to pet owners about the importance of using methods that ensure their pets’ well-being and safety during routine care like nail trimming.
