“I Saw the Light!”: Golden Retriever’s Fence Mishap Becomes Hilarious Rescue Story
By Gabriele Tancredo Stella in Dogs
Is there such a thing as an “apocalyptic” Golden Retriever? Yes, there is! He lives with his family in Amapá, Brazil, and became famous after getting his head stuck between the balcony railings while playing. Luckily, everything ended well, and now the video is making people laugh all over social media.
The distressing episode—humorously narrated as if the dog himself were telling the story—was shared on Zeus’s TikTok profile, @zeus__goldenretrieverr,on May 17.

“Zeus is 1 year and 1 month old, and he’s very playful and mischievous. He’s always wanting to play and ends up getting into mischief. We can’t leave sandals or anything else within his reach, or he’ll always be up to something unusual by the time we get home,” Letícia Caroline dos Santos de Campos, Zeus’ owner, told Amo Meu Pet (our Brazilian pet news website).
In the video, we see Zeus with his head stuck between the balcony railings. He had been playing alone when he accidentally dropped his toy onto the neighbor’s roof and tried to retrieve it. He jokes, “Guys, I almost lost it.”
In his attempt to grab the toy, the poor thing ended up getting his head stuck. Thankfully, he’s calm and didn’t panic. Or maybe he did! “I was already seeing the light,” he recounted. “I thought, ‘I’m too handsome to die like this. My God!’”

Meanwhile, his owners were distressed as they tried to get him out, but were unsuccessful.
“We were desperate when we saw him trapped. Every time I called him, he came, but I’d already called him twice and he hadn’t shown up. So I went to see what was happening and realized he was stuck because he had dropped his toy on the roof and probably thought he could get it,” she explained. “We almost called the fire department because we couldn’t get him out.”
Zeus even made a promise: “Dear God, if I escape this, I swear I won’t destroy anything in the house again.” God, perhaps realizing the sincerity of this prayer, tried to help this rascal. How? He sent his “grandfather” with a saw to saw through the iron.
“I had to keep calming him until my father arrived. When he arrived, he and my husband tried sawing, but it took almost an hour because he was so distressed by the noise. We had to stop and try to calm him down before continuing to saw some more,” she recalled.
His father was tasked with sawing, but he didn’t show much skill with the tool, so Grandpa had to step in. Well, in the end, everything turned out well. Zeus emerged unharmed. Now the only thing left to see is whether he’ll keep his promise, right? What do you think?
“Thank you God for this deliverance,” he thanked.
After the shock, Letícia declared: “Zeus means a lot to us; he’s like our son. He has a little brother named Leon, whom we adopted before Zeus came into our lives. They’re both our babies and complete our lives and that of our family.”
The post reached over 72,000 views, 10,000 reactions, and thousands of comments.
“‘I was already seeing the light.’ Dramatic? Not at all,” commented one user.
“I’m glad everything worked out,” said another.
“Poor thing, he was so happy after he got out,” commented a third.

The importance of keeping windows/balconies screened.
Luckily, nothing bad happened to Zeus, right? But here’s a tip: screened windows are important for keeping pets safe, preventing escapes, falls, intruders, and household accidents.
They allow safe ventilation and reduce risks, providing a protected environment for animals to explore. It’s essential to take preventative measures to protect our four-legged friends.
