Sometimes, life surprises us in ways we only understand later. That’s what happened on November 12, when Henrique and Raquel Santos were returning home after a long day of work.

They noticed a little dog was following them—and only later did the "chase" make sense.

The case happened in Pará, Brazil.

After a few blocks, the couple stopped to help the dog, who was clearly exhausted but kept going.

Naturally, they adopted him. Henrique and his wife took the dog home on the back of their motorcycle, and he behaved perfectly the whole ride.

In an interview with Amo Meu Pet (our Brazilian pet news website), Henrique said that the neighbors reported that the dog had been abandoned on the street for a few days.

Despite the buzz, no one came forward to claim him. “Thank God,” joked Henrique, happy with his new pet.

Even with two dogs and two cats already, Henrique couldn’t ignore the stray’s plea for help.

The dog, now named Seguidor (which means “Follower” in English), stole the hearts of internet users, who asked for updates.

He now gets plenty of hugs and affection—and returns the love with lots of kisses. “We didn’t hesitate to adopt him—the whole family loved the idea and supported it!” he added.

Check out the adoption video:

Henrique shared that, as a child, he had a dog named Beethoven who sadly passed away after being hit by a car.

The loyal friend’s loss scarred Henrique.

“A few days after adopting Seguidor, I looked closely and realized he had all of Beethoven’s traits—his colors, mannerisms, everything! Just like I lost my loyal friend to the road in childhood, I feel like I found him again 19 years later. That moment really touched me,” he said in an interview on Instagram, where the video went viral.

And it’s not just Henrique—his parents also agree that Seguidor reminds them of Beethoven. They all believe he’s come back to be part of the family.

Adopting animals is a way of giving a new chance to a living being that may have been abandoned or mistreated.

Besides gaining a loyal friend, you’re also helping reduce the number of stray animals suffering from hunger, disease, and abuse.

According to the World Health Organization, there are around 30 million animals abandoned in Brazil, with 20 million being dogs.

This situation is a public health and animal welfare problem that requires effective and human solutions.

One of the main measures to prevent the number of dogs on the streets from increasing is castration. In addition, castration brings benefits to the health and behavior of animals, such as preventing diseases, reducing aggression and territorial marking.

Another important measure is raising awareness among the population about responsible pet ownership. This means that when you adopt an animal, you must commit to caring for it for its entire life, providing its basic needs for food, hygiene, health, safety and affection.

Seguidor was truly lucky—he’ll never go hungry or feel afraid on the streets again. See below:

Finally, it is essential to support animal protection initiatives, such as NGOs, shelters and rescue groups, which do voluntary work to collect, treat and donate abandoned animals.

Seguidor’s story is an example of how a simple gesture can transform the life of a living being and bring joy to many people. Congratulations to Henrique for his attitude and to Seguidor for his new family!
