Meet Gorda, the Beloved Community Dog Who “Works” at a Local Pharmacy

Living on the streets of Canela, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, there’s a little mixed-breed dog named Gorda (which means “Fatty” in English), who won the hearts of local residents and the employees of Líder Drugstore, who decided to adopt her as a community dog. She is deeply loved and well cared for by everyone in the community.

Licensed practical nurse Karol Rocha recorded a video of the pup and shared it on her TikTok profile ( @karol_atzz ) on May 20.

In the video, Gorda is seen sitting on the sidewalk in front of the drugstore, struggling to get up due to her weight.

Then, the dog happily walks away, wagging her tail.

Due to Gorda’s weight, many internet users questioned her health, and some even left mean comments on the post.

That’s why Karol made a second video to share more about this little princess.

She said that Gorda is between 10 and 12 years old. She’s spayed and has all her vaccinations up to date. Karol confirmed that she doesn’t have any health problems.

“Hi guys! Just letting you know that she’s fine! She goes to the vet regularly. Don’t worry!” she said.

Karol said she never expected the video to go so viral, nor did she expect to receive so many mean and hateful comments.

To calm the critics, she said that Gorda is very healthy and, after being spayed, gained a few pounds. She jokingly said: “This isn’t fat at all! It’s an excess of adorableness! Let’s stop the comments!”

“Gorda is well cared for by the drugstore employees and the people of Canela,” she concluded.

In an interview with Amo Meu Pet (our Brazilian website about pet news), , Karol shared that the dog has been with the drugstore staff since she was a puppy, because the owner adopted her.

“They [employees] feed her every day, and since it’s a 24/7 drugstore, there’s always someone there to pet her,” she said.

“For us, it’s rewarding to know we’re helping her. She’s like family — she always welcomes the drugstore customers and loves being around the entire team,” she declared.

About the post, Karol said:

“I posted the video as a joke and was really happy to see the attention it got. Everyone should meet Gorda and see that she’s a happy and loving dog. I intend to make more videos of her, showing our routine and sharing the love we feel for her.”

Curious to see this sweetie? Over 7.2 million internet users have watched the video, 943,000 reacted, and thousands commented. Despite the mean comments, many were affectionate.

“She looks like a teddy bear,” wrote one TikToker.
“She’s well cared for and loved — she’s beautiful,” said another.
“The people criticizing are the same ones who don’t even water a plant! The dog is well cared for and that’s what matters. Congratulations to those who help!” commented a third.

Obesity in Dogs

According to PetMD obesity in dogs is a condition in which the animal has an excessive accumulation of body fat, resulting in a weight above the ideal for its breed and size.

It is a worrying condition as it can negatively affect the dog’s health and well-being.

Obesity can be caused by a number of factors, such as inadequate diet, overeating, lack of exercise, genetic predisposition, hormonal imbalances or underlying medical conditions.

Additionally, obesity can lead to a number of health problems, including heart diseases, diabetes, joint problems, breathing difficulties, decreased life expectancy and reduced quality of life.

It is important to monitor your dog’s weight and keep it within healthy limits for his breed and size. If you suspect your dog is obese, it is recommended to seek veterinary advice.
