Family Adopts Puppy Thinking It's a Rottweiler—Ends Up With Something Even Better

When Emilly Chagas, a resident of Espírito Santo, Brazil, saw a Facebook post about a litter of puppies in need of a loving home, she had no doubt she would adopt one.

A good Samaritan had rescued the puppies from the streets and was looking for a family willing to take care of them. Charmed by one of the puppies, who was supposedly a male, Emilly named him Bob.

However, what Emilly and her family later found out was surprising.

The puppy they believed was a boy was, in fact, a girl, and Bob was renamed Buba.

“It was only after a few days that we realized she was a girl,” Emilly revealed to Amo Meu Pet (our Brazilian website about pet news).

Emilly makes it clear that, despite the small mix-up, the person who rescued the puppies didn’t provide any misleading information about the dog’s breed.

The confusion began later, when the family began to suspect Buba’s true identity.

“I believed she was a Rottweiler puppy, because of the fur color around the paws and snout… She, still a puppy, was a little fat, strong, and with big paws. So, I told everyone that I could that she was a Rottweiler.”

Moreover, a comment from a veterinarian helped reinforce this belief.

“When my dad took her to the vet for the first time, the vet looked and said, ‘Now, let’s look at this Rottweiler.’”

From then on, no one had any doubts that Buba was a Rottweiler. Well, that is until she started growing up.

Emilly posted a video on her TikTok showing Buba’s before and after. The post, which received 1.3 million views, made many internet users laugh.

“It was pretty funny because as she grew, we noticed she was getting very furry and very different from the breed’s characteristics. She went from being a Rottweiler to looking like a burnt fuse!” Emilly says.

Today Buba is four years old and is the family’s sweetheart. According to Emilly, the characteristics that don’t match a Rottweiler’s are what make her unique and even more special.

“Lucky me! I love her so much. We loved her spiked fur, her cute ears, and the little face that only she has, the sweet eyes…”

Emilly loves her so much that she even threw a birthday party for Buba, along with her canine brother, Lion.

Buba is Emilly’s best friend and is considered a beloved daughter.

“I would pick her over thousands of purebred dogs,” Emilly declared.
