In Valéria Rezende’s case, a resident of Minas Gerais, Brazil, the one who holds that place is Swat, a mixed-breed dog.

Although 40 years have passed, she still remembers the happy moments spent with her little friend.

And perhaps because she was missing him, one night in September 2022, Valéria dreamt about Swat.

In the dream, she expressed how much she missed him.

“I dreamt I hugged Swat and told him, ‘I missed you so much’—a dog I had 40 years ago,” Valéria shared with Amo Meu Pet (our Brazilian website about pet news).

But what she couldn’t imagine was that the dream, filled with longing and love, would be the spark of an event that would unfold a week later.

While leaving her apartment, Valéria was surprised to find an abandoned pup lying in front of her door.

What made this encounter extraordinary was that the thin, frightened dog managed to get into the building and settled exactly in front of her door.

Her neighbor informed her that the dog had been there since morning.

The coincidence didn’t go over her head, especially because Swat had appeared in her dream.

Valéria, who lives in a relatively small apartment with two lovebirds, immediately sent a photo to a friend asking for advice.

The answer was direct:

“It’s yours now!”

From then on, Swat found a loving home.

Although Valéria was unemployed at the time, with the help of a friend she was able to provide basic care, from kibble to veterinary visits.

“I took him to a clinic for his shots and told the vet I was unemployed, which is why I could only afford the basic vaccinations.”

Upon hearing this, the vet offered encouragement:

“She said, ‘Look, Valéria, you did something so good that I’m sure God will reward you—and you’ll find a job.’”

And that’s exactly what happened.

“A few days later, I really got a job, and I’ve been working there ever since.”

The dog, who weighed 26 pounds and was approximately 6 months old, got a new beginning, just like Valéria.

Swat is a true example of resilience and transformation.

Abandoned on the streets, he wandered for 15 days before finding Valéria.

Today, weighing 48 pounds, he not only doubled in size but also blossomed into a happy and expressive dog.

Swat is yet another example of how love and care can change lives.

Valéria shared how the neighborhood rejoices at seeing the dog’s incredible transformation.

His past of abandonment and fear gave way to a new reality full of affection, socialization, and joy.

“Today he is a companion, a protector, a guardian. A blessing in my life.”

Swat became not only a loyal companion to Valéria, but an inspiration to all who know his story.
