What would you do if you were driving and came across a lost American Bully on the road? Would you stop to help? Or just drive past, leaving the dog to fend for itself? Alice Chaves and her boyfriend Rian chose the first option—even though Rian was a little nervous about how the dog might react. The rescue was filmed by Alice and posted to her TikTok account (@alicechaves_4_) on June 24th. The video has already racked up over 903,000 views. So, how do you think the dog—who turned out to be a female—reacted?
She didn’t bark, much less act aggressively. In fact, the dog was incredibly sweet and just wanted to play with the couple—but Rian froze in the car until he realized how friendly she really was.
In the video, you can see that the moment the car door opened, the dog jumped right in—and didn’t want to leave.
In an interview with Amo Meu Pet (our Brazilian website about pet news), Alice shared that she lives in a rural neighborhood in São Pedro, in the countryside of São Paulo, where everyone knows each other.
The day she and her boyfriend found the American Bully, they were leaving her family’s property to head into town.
“We saw this dog in the street, right in front of our car,” she recalled. “He was wagging his tail, and I said, ‘It’s fine, he’s wagging his tail. Let’s take a photo and post it in the neighborhood group—someone’s probably looking for him.’”
But when Alice opened the door to snap the picture—surprise! The pup jumped right in and refused to get out.
Rian was intimidated by the dog—who they later learned is named Úrsula—mainly because of her size. But after a few minutes, it was clear she was as sweet as could be.
While spending time with the dog, Alice remembered that a neighbor had once mentioned owning an American Bully who occasionally escaped. But Alice didn’t have her contact info or even know where she lived.
“I couldn’t take her back to my family’s place because I have two pit bulls,” she explained. “They’re super gentle with people, but they don’t get along with other dogs.”
Just then, another neighbor passed by, and the couple asked if he could keep an eye on Úrsula while they tried to track down her owner. He agreed. Alice and Rian then went to the workplace of the woman they suspected owned the dog. When they arrived, the woman immediately recognized Úrsula and called her husband to pick her up.
The owner came to get her by motorcycle. According to Alice, Úrsula climbed right onto the seat and sat quietly the whole ride home. So adorable!
“She’s the kind of dog that might scare people because of her big head and because of the pit bull stereotype. But once people get to know her, they realize how calm and sweet she is,” Alice added.
