Golden Retrievers Meet Their Human Baby Brother—and Their Reaction Is Pure Love
By Gabriele Tancredo Stella in Dogs
Lawyer Erika Alves Barretto Coutinho and her husband, André Luiz Paes de Seixas, own three Golden Retrievers.
Not long ago, they welcomed little Luiz Henrique.Do you think the furry trio was jealous of their new little brother? Not at all! They welcomed the newest member of the family with pure joy.
The family lives in Pernambuco, Brazil, and without a doubt, Luiz is a lucky baby—his canine brothers are not only adorable but also devoted and gentle around him.
The dogs—Luke, Eike, and Amora—showed their love for their little brother the moment they met him.
With wagging tails and curious expressions, they joyfully approached the baby carrier to welcome the little one.
Luiz’s Arrival
So, what was it like during Erika’s pregnancy? Did the trio feel jealous?
According to Erika, in her interview with Amo Meu Pet (our Brazilian website about pet news), the answer is no! The Golden Retrievers were sweet and affectionate, always staying close to her as if they sensed a baby growing inside.
When the baby arrived home, the dogs’ reaction couldn’t have been better—they welcomed the little human with joy.
“When Luiz Henrique was born and we came home from the hospital, we introduced him to the dogs right away. He was in the baby carrier, and the dogs immediately began sniffing him—they were very curious to see what was inside. They kept sniffing and even gave him a few gentle licks. It was truly heartwarming!”
The adorable Golden Retrievers welcomed Luiz with love and care—always under the close supervision of their parents. Even though Luiz is just a few months old and not very interactive yet, the way the dogs relate to him is simply charming.
“We put them to bed—sometimes they sleep with us—they’ve always stayed in our room. We go out and travel together whenever possible,” she explained. “They are included, as they always have been, in everything possible, and we always try to do activities and trips in which they can be included.”
“They are part of our family!”
Erika says that being a mom to a newborn and three Golden Retrievers is tiring—but incredibly rewarding! Since Luiz is still very young and completely dependent, Erika and André do their best to manage their time so the baby’s routine doesn’t disrupt the dogs’.
“We try not to change their daily routine, you know? So they don’t feel left out or think the little human has taken their place. Never! They all have space. They’re siblings. They stay close during bath time, sleep with us, and have full access to the house,” she explained.“Those who know us know they’re treated like children—without giving up their full dog life.”
Because they’ve always been close to Luiz, the Golden Retrievers have welcomed their little brother warmly—even if they find him a little strange for now, since he’s still so small.
“It’s such a wonderful feeling having our Goldens always nearby, sharing every moment. We’re looking forward to when Luiz starts eating solids—it’ll be chaos! I’m sure they’ll be camped out by his highchair waiting for falling snacks.”
The four of them are the joy of our home, and I’m sure Luiz will grow up to be best friends with his furry siblings!
