Torrada the “Hoarder Dog” Has a Secret Stash—and It’s Hilarious
By Gabriele Tancredo Stella in Dogs
Imagine having a four-legged friend who, instead of fetching a ball, prefers to collect curious objects. This is Torrada (which means “Toast” in English), a mixed-breed dog who won the hearts of his owners, Patrick Pereira Rodrigues and Bruna Roias Ferreira, as well as people on the internet with his adorable and funny habit of hoarding unexpected things.
Torrada, a friendly dog who’s around 7 years old, has a life story marked by sadness and resilience.
Patrick recalls finding his loyal friend in an extremely difficult situation back in 2017.
“I rescued Torrada. He had been burned with some kind of oil or hot water and was abandoned in a shack on a dead-end street, where my cousin lives. I was taking my cousin home and saw him there.” Patrick recalled.
As soon as he was rescued, Torrada began showing signs of a compulsive need to bite objects.
Patrick explains: “When we got him, he already wanted to bite things. We didn’t know why. Soon, we realized he got nervous whenever he was near certain objects.”
Torrada, however, holds onto his past in a unique way—by collecting things. Whether it’s flip-flops, cleaning cloths, or any object he finds interesting, everything ends up in this special little dog’s house.
“I think the hardest thing I’ve ever had to take out of his house was a dead pigeon.I read online that some dogs develop this behavior as puppies, and if not addressed, they can turn into a ‘Torrada.’ But I’m not sure it’s true.”
According to the American Kennel Club, dogs may hide things for many reasons, from natural instincts to underlying stress.
Hiding habits can become problematic if forbidden items keep disappearing.
Just like Torrada, who used to be more aggressive—probably due to the pain from wounds that kept reopening and the trauma he experienced.
Today, according to Patrick, Torrada understands the need for care and even cooperates during treatments.
As for his collection, Patrick says Torrada doesn’t destroy the items—he simply places them gently in his house.
“We’ve learned to love his quirky ways. It’s not that we don’t let him do it—it’s just that he takes things when we’re not looking. It’s annoying because we can’t leave anything on the floor: slippers, shoe cloths, you name it—he grabs it all. At least it gives us a good laugh,” Patrick concluded.
It Went Viral
Torrada’s story, with his unique and adorable behavior, gained prominence on social media, especially TikTok, where he entertains a loyal audience with his “collections” of unusual objects.
There, you’ll find several videos showing the mutt’s obsessive desire to collect everything for his little house.
It’s no wonder he’s won hearts and made so many people laugh—proving that uniqueness can be an endless source of joy.
