Lobinho is so adorable!

Just imagine a mix between a Siberian Husky and a Labrador! With such beautiful parents, the puppy is bound to be stunning, right? And confirming my suspicion, veterinarian Hellen Cristina de Sousa introduced her pup, who, thanks to the crossbreed, belongs to the hybrid breed popularly known as a "Labsky."

The two-month-old puppy is named Lobinho and is absolutely adorable! He was born with a cleft lip, a split snout, and blindness (likely without an eyeball). All of these conditions are extremely rare. Due to his condition, he was rejected.

Well, Lobinho might have been rejected, but not by Hellen. Upon learning about the puppy’s case through a Facebook post, she didn’t think twice before deciding to adopt him.

“I saw a post saying that a Husky had given birth in a park, and he was the only one who hadn’t been adopted because he had a condition,” Hellen told Amo Meu Pet (our Brazilian website about pet news).

The man who rescued the puppy said that neighbors had been feeding him, but it wasn’t enough.

So, he took him to an animal shelter. However, the shelter couldn’t keep him. That same day, Hellen saw the post and went to pick him up.

Lobinho: A Special Dog

The veterinarian explained that Lobinho’s health conditions aren’t related to his breed mix, as all his siblings were born healthy.

“It appears to be a congenital malformation. Congenital anomalies are abnormalities that can be structural or functional and occur during pregnancy. They can have a genetic, infectious, environmental, or nutritional origin, although in many cases it’s not possible to identify the exact cause. Both conditions are extremely rare,” she explained.

Regarding the cleft lip, Hellen explains that “in dogs, it occurs when a fissure forms in the animal’s lip. This condition is caused by fetal malformation during gestation, resulting in the upper lip being attached to the base of the nose.”

“Bilateral anophthalmia,” Hellen explained, “refers to the complete absence of the eyeballs despite the presence of ocular adnexa, eyelids, conjunctiva, and lacrimal apparatus. It is a very rare congenital condition affecting all dog breeds, where the dog is born without one (unilateral) or both eyes (bilateral).”

The bifid nose, which creates the appearance of having “two noses,” is, according to the veterinarian, “a very rare congenital abnormality where the nose is divided directly down the middle. It gives the impression of two noses, but it is actually one and functions perfectly.”

Labsky

Lobinho is adorable, isn’t he?

According to Dog Time, the Labsky hybrid breed combines the affectionate and friendly temperament of the Labrador with the energy and striking appearance of the Husky.

They typically have dense fur and expressive eyes, inheriting distinctive traits from both breeds.

They are known for being intelligent, loyal, and excellent family companions.

However, it is important to note that, like with any breed, temperament can vary from one individual to another.
