Dog Makes a Huge Mess, and Owner Jokes: “Think Twice Before Getting a Golden”
By Gabriele Tancredo Stella in Dogs
An eleven-year-old Golden Retriever named Laila made her owner reflect and leave a “warning” for anyone considering getting a dog of this breed. BAfter one of Laila’s messy adventures, there was nothing left to do but sigh and remind himself that no matter the situation, this breed never needs a reason to jump into water.
Living in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, Denis Erdmann shares an exciting life with his dog.
Together, they go on walks, explore new places, and enjoy special moments that strengthen their bond even more.
On their last walk, Laila made her owner reflect on their relationship when she put him through an embarrassing situation by jumping into a muddy puddle. Laila used to be golden, but now she’s “chocolate,” haha.
Denis, laughing at the situation — so he wouldn’t cry — recorded the moment when the dog was under the shower, trying to wash off the dirt, and vented about it.
“It was a shock for the whole family when we got home. The first thing I heard was, “You’re cleaning the bathroom!” The shower had been running for over two hours, and layers of sand had built up in the stall — it looked like a giant bar of melted chocolate,” Denis told Amo Meu Pet (our Brazilian website about pet news).
He shared that anyone considering getting a Golden Retriever should think twice, because they never hesitate to jump into water. It doesn’t matter if it’s a pool, the sea, a river, or a puddle — if there’s a chance to get wet, they’ll take it.
“Ever since she was little, Laila has always loved water. She has caused a lot of trouble because of it, but she makes up for it by being loving and playful,” he said.
According to Denis, Goldens don’t care if you’re far from home, have your car, or need to take an Uber. They’ll get wet, and it’s up to the owner to figure out how to deal with it.
Well, it seems Laila was far from home when she made that mess, doesn’t it?
“On the day of the mud bath, we went for a walk in a remote field when she saw a small lake surrounded by trees and plants. She didn’t think twice before running straight into it. After the lake bath, we headed home — which was nearly two miles away,” he recalled.
Not content with just the lake, here’s what she did next:
“On the way home, she spotted a tiny puddle in the middle of a large mud pit created by a tractor. Of course, she couldn’t resist — she ran straight into it and started the party all over again. This time, though, there wasn’t much water — just plenty of rich, irresistible mud to roll around in,” he said. “The sun was setting, and I couldn’t take her back to the lake to rinse off the excess mud before it got dark. We had to keep going like that!”
While venting during the bath, it was Laila’s expression that won over the internet. With a face that looks like she’s “rethinking her entire existence,” she appears regretful for getting into trouble — because clearly, a bath isn’t her idea of fun. Apparently, shower water is the one thing she just can’t stand, haha.
The video was posted on Denis’ TikTok profile, garnering over 890,000 views, 100,000 reactions and thousands of funny comments.
“She’s already thinking about her next mud adventure. I have one too — he loves mud. Mine waits for me to bathe him, then runs straight back into it,” one internet user commented.
“That pitiful face — trying to trick you into thinking the mud jumped on her,” wrote another.
“So sweet! I think the mud attacked her. Just look at that poor innocent face,” added a third.

I don’t think it’ll take long before Laila gets into trouble again, right?
There’s a reason for the mess! Just look at the life Laila leads in the video below.
In a place like that, it’s impossible to resist jumping into the water. I support Laila — what about you?
Why Are Golden Retrievers So in Love with Water?
Golden retrievers’ love for water is deeply rooted in their history as hunting companions. Originally bred to retrieve waterfowl for hunters, they developed a natural affinity for swimming and splashing around—traits that remain strong even today.
Their water-resistant coat and sturdy build, combined with their boundless energy and friendly nature, make golden retrievers excellent swimmers and playful companions around water.
Their retrieving instinct is central to the breed, and water activities give them the perfect chance to express it. This love for water is a natural part of the golden retriever’s adventurous and joyful spirit.
