Dog Who Loves Sleeping Drags His Bed to the Bedroom All by Himself
By Gabriele Tancredo Stella in Dogs
Valentino is a mixed-breed dog who loves sleeping (anyone else on the same team? Hahaha). He likes it so much that he doesn’t even need someone to move his bed to the bedroom, let alone tuck him in. He does it all by himself. It’s so cute to see!
“My dog, Valentino, puts himself to bed. He is very sleepy, so he learned to grab his own bed and drag it to the bedroom. He just loves to sleep!” Natalia told Amo Meu Pet (our Brazilian website about pet news).
It might seem like an exaggeration, but it’s not! Natalia recorded the moment and shared it with us through WhatsApp.

In the video, you can see this cutie grabbing his little bed with his mouth and dragging it all the way to the bedroom. If anyone’s in the way, they’d better move — because he’s not exactly the polite type (laughs).Once he finds the perfect spot to settle down (right in the doorway), he plops down. What a little boss!
The nine-year-old dog is super cute and full of energy. He was adopted by Natalia when he was just one year old. Valentino had been abandoned and was rescued by an NGO in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. It was through this NGO that this sweetie came into his human’s life.
“He has always been kind of lazy, even when he was young. So, he loves his bed as if it were the most precious thing in the world,” Natalia said. “In the beginning, he slept in the laundry room, but it didn’t take long for him to melt our hearts and start sleeping in the bedroom.”
Now, about his habit of dragging his bed to the bedroom — it all started right after he was adopted by Natalia.

She used to take his bed from the living room and bring it to the bedroom. It only took a few times for him to realize that the bedroom is where people sleep and that he needs to take his bed there. Pets are so clever!
“It was the most exciting moment of the day for him. I think it still is,” Natalia said. “He just loves to sleep so much.”
Valentino would happily skip after his owner when she dragged his bed to the bedroom. I don’t think there’s a dog that loves sleeping more than this little guy!
“So, when we sort of dragged the bed, he would bite it and try to pull it… until one day I thought, ‘Could he learn to take his bed?’ and my boyfriend said directly, ‘Come on, he wouldn’t do it,’” she recalled.
I think Natalia was right—the moment she asked Valentino to grab his bed to sleep, he dashed straight to the living room to fetch his most prized possession. Here’s the best part - he even adds a little wiggle to his walk!
“Over time, he went straight to the bedroom (at first, he would stop midway). Now he gets super excited when we say, ‘Valen, let’s go to sleep, it’s time.’ He runs all excited, grabs his bed, lies down, and crashes.”

He also sleeps in his owner’s bed, and getting up is a real struggle. Watch:
Today, Valentino lives with his family in Berlin, Germany. And look at what Natalia told us: “We moved here with only one suitcase and the dog. We would never leave him behind.”
Now, do you know why some dogs love sleeping so much?
According to Purina, dogs love to sleep for different reasons. Sleep is an essential part of their lives, just as it is for humans. Here are some possible explanations:
Rest and recovery: just like us, dogs need sleep to rest and recover their energy. Sleeping helps restore the body and mind, allowing them to feel reinvigorated.
Natural instinct: many dogs have a natural instinct to rest and sleep. In nature, canines are known for spending long periods resting, which allows them to preserve energy for hunting, exploring, or protecting their territory.
Comfort and safety: a dog’s bed or sleeping place can offer them comfort and safety. Having a soft and welcoming place to sleep can help them feel relaxed and protected.
Daily habits: dogs can develop daily habits that include long periods of sleep. This can be influenced by their owner’s routine, feeding times, physical activity, and other factors.
If you notice a significant change in your dog’s sleeping habits, such as excessive sleep or persistent insomnia, it’s advisable to check with your veterinarian to rule out possible health problems.
