Bela is a little dog who loves to go for a walk around her neighborhood in São Paulo, Brazil. She takes advantage of these little escapes when her owner, Julhia, opens the gate to her house. But one day, the little pup was caught red-handed — and her reaction was hilarious.

Julhia was walking down the street when she looked to the side and saw none other than Bela. When she called the little runaway’s name, the sweetheart came slowly toward her, tail wagging, crawling along the walls as if that would make her invisible to her owner.

The scene was so hilarious that Julhia filmed it and shared it on her TikTok account ( @ju.gi_) on June 29 to show the world just how much of an actress — or maybe a spy-in-training? — her pup really is! The video racked up over 388,000 views, and in the caption, Julhia admits she has no idea how her dog got out of the house.

Bela, Bela, , what have you been watching, huh, girl? Must be the 007 spy movies, right? Looks like you're training to become a canine superspy! That has to be it!

In an interview with Amo Meu Pet (our Brazilian website about pet news), Julhia said the little dog has been part of the family since they moved to the countryside eight years ago. She used to belong to a woman who worked with her mother.

Cute and loving, Bela loves to cuddle! When she’s excited, she runs from one place to another like a rocket. One of her favorite things to do is lie in the backyard and sunbathe. And now it seems she also likes to run away. Oh, oh, oh — Miss Bela!

“On the day of the video, my brother came home from school and left the gate open for a while, and we didn’t see her leave. It was only when I was going to the market, about 30 minutes later, that I saw her coming down the street. Then I said to my mom, ‘Look who’s there!’ and I started filming. She knew she was in trouble and scrunched up all the way home,” Julhia explained.

Whenever she gets the chance — when someone opens the gate — Bela takes the opportunity to peek at what’s happening on the sidewalk or take a strategic pee. But she never went far... until that day, when she decided it was time to explore the world beyond the backyard!

“That day, I think she just wanted to go for a walk. But even then, she only goes to the end of the street and comes back — she never leaves the neighborhood,” she said.“Now, every time before we close the gate, we check to see if she’s inside the house (laughs).”

In love with Bela, Julhia declares:

“Bela is the heart of our family. She’s been with us since we moved to this city and has lived with us in every house. We almost lost her once — it was a terrible experience I hope to never go through again. Even though she’s already old, I hope we still have many more years together. She’s the little soul I love most in this world. She’s always by my side, and I know she loves me too.”

Bela’s mischievous ways won the hearts of many internet users, and the video got over 76,000 views.

“Don’t be suspicious, don’t be suspicious…” joked one TikTok user.
“She almost blends into the wall to camouflage herself, and after she passes you, she takes off running. So cute,” commented another.
“How can you scold someone with that remorseful face?” asked a third.

This Bela is quite the character!

Now, the question remains: do dogs know when they have done something wrong?

According to VCA Animal Hospitals, some studies suggest that dogs may understand when they’ve done something wrong — especially if they associate the action with a reprimand or negative.

They are sensitive to signs of disapproval from their owner and may display submissive or guilty behaviors, such as flattening their ears, cowering, or looking down.

However, it’s important to remember that dogs don’t have the same moral understanding as humans, and their reactions may be more influenced by body language and tone of voice than by a true sense of guilt.
