The caramel-colored dog only calmed down once the boy stopped applying the ice.

Jeane Lenzi, a paid traffic manager from Santa Catarina, Brazil, owns a caramel-colored mutt named Ekko — who loves his family so much that he gets upset whenever someone is hurt and needs to rest with an ice pack. Wait, what?
Jeane’s son, Pedro, had both of his wisdom teeth removed and had to put an ice pack on his face to reduce the swelling. When Ekko saw what was happening, he was terrified — and started grumbling, doing everything he could to make Pedro stop.
“Ekko was surprised and grumbled at him to take the ice off his face. He didn’t rest until Pedro gave up,” Jeane told Amo Meu Pet (our Brazilian website about pet news).

This sweet moment of Ekko worrying about his human was shared on Jeane’s Instagram (@tuca_lenzi) on June 24, and it touched the hearts of internet users. He’s clearly returning all the love he’s received since joining the family.
“We rescued him from the NGO Viva Bicho here in my city,” she said. “Ekko is now 3 years old — still very young, even though many people think he’s a senior,” she added.
In the video, Ekko and Pedro are lying in bed while Jeane, also lying down, films their “conversation.” Pedro is holding an ice pack to his face, and as soon as Ekko sees it, he starts grumbling — as if telling him to stop.
Pedro, not understanding what the pup wanted, kept the ice on his face. Then he tried putting the ice on the dog’s face, thinking that’s what Ekko wanted. But Ekko clearly wasn’t interested in that. He wasn’t the one wanting an ice pack on his face — he just wanted Pedro to stop! LOL.

“He’s a real character,” Jeane said. “He fills our house with joy every day.”
Then, Jeane interprets the pup’s protest and asks her son to take the ice off — which he does. That’s when Ekko, who had stepped away after being “smacked” in the face, lies down at Pedro’s feet and finally relaxes.
“This ice looks dangerous. Tell him to take it off, Mom!” reads the caption over the video.
The post reached over 11,000 views and hundreds of comments.
“He’s definitely an angel sent from heaven to your family. You can see how protective he is,” wrote one TikTok user.
“What a cutie! That sweet face — such a precious baby!” exclaimed another.
“What a beautiful and concerned little one,” commented a third.

Do dogs know when their owners are injured?
Yes, dogs have the ability to detect when their owners are injured. They have a heightened sense of smell and hearing, which allows them to identify changes in body odor and sounds. In addition, dogs are very attentive to their owners’ visual and behavioral cues.
When a dog notices their owner is injured, they may show concern and try to offer comfort. They may gently approach, lick the injured area, or even stay by their owner’s side to provide emotional support. Support dogs may also seek help or draw attention to the injury.
This ability to sense injuries comes from their protective instincts and the strong emotional bonds they form with their humans. Dogs have a natural instinct to care for and protect those they consider part of their “pack” — their family.
