Tuti’s Double Life: Cat Secretly Adopts a Second Home and Becomes the Darling of the City’s Radio Station

Tuti is one lucky girl! First, she was adopted by veterinarian Marceli Tubias. Then, she chose a second home — the UPF radio station, located on Campus I of the University of Passo Fundo in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. This cutie now lives in what can only be described as “shared custody.” Cool, right?

In an interview with Amo Meu Pet (our Brazilian website about pet news), Marceli said that Tuti came into her life a few years ago through a client. At the time, Tuti lived in the client’s neighborhood and had given birth to kittens. The woman couldn’t adopt her, but to prevent further litters, she had her spayed and continued feeding her outside her house.

Marceli, who was looking to adopt a cat, asked her client if she knew of any available for adoption — that’s when she mentioned Tuti. Now, Tuti has a forever home!

Because she had lived on the streets for so long, the cat developed the habit of spending time outdoors, so even though Marceli kept her at the grooming salon she owned next to the university, the feline always found a way to sneak out for her daily strolls.

The thing is, Marceli had no idea about Tuti’s visits to the radio station — she simply thought Tuti was roaming the neighborhood. Tuti would spend the day out and return home at night.

The Second Home

Eugenio Matheus, the radio station’s scriptwriter, told Amo Meu Pet that, at first, the kitten would stay for a couple of hours before wandering off to explore other buildings on campus. No one realized she actually had a home.

“Everyone always cared for her — giving her affection, attention, and food,” he said. “At the Dentistry building, she had even earned a name: Toofsy”.

She kept this routine for five months: leaving home early in the morning, wandering around the university during the day, and returning to Marceli at night.

The Discovery of Her Double Life

One day, Julio, one of Marceli's clients, brought his cat in for a vet appointment and recognized Tuti — not from the clinic, but from the radio station. He told the vet that the cat spent her days at the radio station.

“That’s when I found out she had a second home — at the UPF radio station,” she said. “She chose this second family all on her own.”

Shared Custody

Because of Tuti’s comings ad goings, she gave everyone a scare when she went missing in September. A child saw her walking on the street and picked her up. To everyone’s relief, Tuti reappeared five days after she went missing.

“Since then, Marceli called us and suggested we pick her up daily, because when Tuti is kept inside, she gets sad and won’t eat,” said Eugenio.

Tuti is no longer allowed to roam the streets — but at the radio station, she lives it up! Eugenio picks her up from the clinic at 8 a.m. and brings her back to Marceli by 3:30 p.m. every day.

“From the start of this shared routine, we noticed she was sad and meowing a lot. We knew she missed exploring the campus.”

So she wouldn’t feel sad, Eugenio rearranged his lunch break to take her for a walk. What wouldn’t we do for our pets, right?

“She walks around the trees near the radio station… plays, hunts birds, explores everything,” he explained. “I really tire her out.”

Tuti is the radio station’s darling. She climbs onto desks and workstations, and everyone takes the opportunity to interact with her, showering her with affection.

“She spends a lot of time at the reception desk, so anyone who visits the radio station might be welcomed by Tuti.”

Watch the video of her messing around during a radio show — haha!
