This Cockatiel Takes Showers Like a Human—and Absolutely Loves It
Pepeu, a playful cockatiel from Brazil, has swapped the birdbath for a warm shower and became an internet sensation.
By Gabriele Tancredo Stella in Animal WorldCockatiels are birds that care deeply about hygiene and feather maintenance. SSome prefer to bathe in a shallow dish, while others enjoy being gently sprayed with water. But surprisingly, Pepeu prefers to take showers—can you believe it?
Pepeu and Pipoca, two cockatiel brothers, live with their family in Minas Gerais, Brazil. Their owner, Marcia, shared in an interview with Amo Meu Pet (our Brazilian website about pet news)that this dynamic duo brings joy to the home with their unique personalities.
Pepeu is the kind of bird who loves to have fun, is always playful, enjoys affection, and loves being around people. Pipoca, on the other hand, is more serious and doesn’t enjoy affection as much.
This little duo even has their own cage, but honestly, they prefer exploring the house from top to bottom. That’s why it’s important for their humans to always watch where they step—so they don’t accidentally step on these excited little birds!
During one of his house explorations, Pepeu found the bathroom—more specifically, the shower—and now, every chance he gets, he makes his owner give him a warm shower. He knows what’s good, doesn’t he?
“Pepeu loves a bath—but not just any bath, a shower! My daughter Ester went to take a shower, and he just had to go too!” declared Marcia.
Meanwhile, Pipoca stayed far away from the artificial rain—he prefers the bathtub. To each their own, right?
Pepeu’s Adoption
Pepeu was a gift from Ester’s aunt; he joined the family to keep the “grumpy” Pipoca company. The bird used to spend a lot of time alone, just staring at himself in the mirror, so the family, feeling empathetic about his situation, decided to adopt a brother. In addition to cheering up his brother, Pepeu brings joy to the entire family!
“Pepeu is the joy of the house. I say he’s a bird with the soul of a dog, hahaha. He always wants to be close—he climbs onto my feet with his wings open, asking to be picked up! It doesn’t matter what I’m doing. Whether I’m cooking, doing the dishes, or eating, there he is with his wings open, running and looking up as if to say: ‘So, are you going to pick me up or not?’” she described.
The Video
Curious to see Pepeu during his relaxing moment? It’s a pleasure to watch him bathe—he fearlessly stays under the water, enjoying it as it falls on his little white body, even spreading his wings.
